I was all set up for my #infrared shots of Window Arch in #archesnationalpark and fortunately Amanda came into my frame and started posing for her boyfriend. I didn’t know them and she didn’t know I was photographing at the same time but sometimes serendipity works better than planning.
Here is the finished version with the darkened sky. You can bring down the exposure of the sky in many ways. I prefer “curves.” This has three curves adjustments, one just to bring down the exposure of the sky, one to add contrast just to the sky, and one to add contrast to the entire image. The only other adjustment is a “color balance” adjustment because when you shoot in such low light the image tends to get an overall tone of a certain color and that helps balance it. If you have other questions you can message me. If you’re not an asshole I might even reply.
This is the unedited image sequence straight from Lightroom for whoever is curious. I know it’s popular these days to composite images but I don’t like to do that. Instead I get detailed foreground images by over over-exposing the sky by a few stops but not so much that I lose detail. Then all you have to do is bring down the exposure of the sky a little and you have details in both the sky and land. Sony A7rii Sigma 20mm 1.4 at1.4 ISO 3200 300 25 second exposures
In anticipation of the upcoming #milkyway season I’m reposting a time-lapse I made a few years ago when Instagram still had constraints on image size and video length. Now you can see it as it was intended
First time I've shot anything since March. I've been busy working on my house, which has been fulfilling but being out alone in the wide open looking at the stars makes me wonder if I might be happiest if my entire life fit inside a stuff sack. #hobodrifterinthemakingBryce Canyon National Park
Mesa Arch is the standard sunrise spot in Canyonlands and you definitely should experience that tourist shot show at least once, it truly is a photogenic sunrise even if you're packed in like sardines if sardines were photographers. But I decided to go with a different sunrise spot. #canyonlands #utah #moab #visitmoab #snapseekers
